Origins

Although some of the previous schools had active Old Pupil Associations (notably the Wembley Old Grammarians), no single organisation representing the interests of all the schools had existed for 30 years.

In 1995 the then Head Teacher, Pankaj Gulab, took the initiative by holding an informal gathering of some 200 old pupils. From this vision a Task Force, organised by Senior Teacher Brian Gruszecki, established an Old Pupils Association for all former pupils and staff of Alperton Community School and all its predecessor schools at Alperton.

The initial objective of the Association, which was to arrange a Reunion in June 1997 commemorating 75 Years of quality education at Alperton, proved highly successful.

Over 1000 people were present at the 1997 Reunion, including pupils who started their secondary education at Stanley Avenue in 1922. Separate sections were devoted to the different schools and eras which now provide the historical linkage through Alperton High School to the present Alperton Community School (which is located on sites in Ealing Road and Stanley Avenue). Similar major reunions were held in May 2002 and 2007.

Since the 1997 initiative, a rapidly expanding Old Alpertonians’ Association has flourished, publishing at least two substantial Newsletters each year and providing a wide range of services to Members for a very modest subscription. Example articles from recent Newsletters can be viewed here.

At the end of 2003 the OAA shortened its name to the "Old Alpertonians".

Old Alpertonians'  Website

The original OA website (as shown) was created in October 2001 by a former (1958 - 65) Wembley County School pupil.

The website seeks to promote the Old Alpertonians and gather information for inclusion in OA Newsletter publications.

Being available on the Internet, the website is freely available to everybody world-wide, helping to keep OA members in touch wherever they may be.

Within the first 3 months the website had over 1,000 "hits", rising to 3,000 in early May 2002. We are always seeking to include additional material of interest to all formal pupils and staff (not just WCS) and would welcome further material. If you have photographs or other appropriate items then please contact us.

OA Archive

The OA looks after a considerable amount of archive material, the index to which is accessible from this website.

To view a copy of the OA Archive index (in a new Window) simply click here

To download a copy of the index (as a Word document) simply view the document and save it.

OA Members requesting access to selected items may contact us.

In Memory of Gordon Knight

It is with great sadness that we inform readers that Gordon Knight, a former Head Boy and Scout Leader, passed away in June 2006 at the age of 63. He is greatly missed by all who knew him.

The Old Alpertonians is indebted to Gordon Knight who was its main driving force for more than 12 years.

It was only through Gordon's strenuous efforts that the Old Alpertonians association was revived in 1995. The amount of work he took on was phenomenal, as he received correspondence, kept the membership list and meticulously recorded the Archive material (an ongoing task). He also organised the 5-yearly reunions, with suggestions from the Committee, as well as editing the Newsletter.

The OA committee is striving to continue running the association to the very high standards that Gordon inspired. If you can assist the OA committee in any way your help would be greatly appreciated (see Contact Us).
